The Team will again comprise of 13 Israeli and 13 Palestinian sportsmen who are excellent athletes and excel in their current sport. Some players from the 2008 Peace Team will also be returning. The Centre will work closely with our Palestinian partners to identify, teach and train the players in the game of AFL and while this may seem challenging, it will be most achievable through our partnership with, and commitment by the AFL. AFL legend and previous Peace Team coach – Robert DiPierdomenico, will once again train the Team. Henry Jolson QC, a Judge/Arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Switzerland) and Director of the AFL Football Club, the Western Bulldogs, has also been appointed as the official AFL Peace Team Ambassador. The Peace Team will be organized and managed by Tanya Oziel and John Weiss. The AFL’s International Manager and former Hawthorn player, Tony Woods and International Cup Ambassador and former Sydney Swans Captain, Brett Kirk, head the International Cup.
The flow on from the 2008 team still continues to resonate throughout corporate, communal, educational and political leaders throughout Australia and in parts of the world. This was a story that inspired all those who were involved and were touched by this incredible group of men who crossed all boundaries to make this happen – political, physical and emotional.
